ABRAR'S STORY
Assalamu Alaikum
I am Abrar (a pseudonym).
Since childhood, I was very restless and a bit of a slacker. I spent more time wandering around and playing rather than studying. Still, I managed to get good results. I had plenty of friends, and my family loved me. They used to call me brilliant.
After my SSC exams, while thinking about what to do next, six of my friends and I decided to try drugs one day. Nothing happened to the others, but it felt like I had been waiting for this moment. I got hooked instantly. Drugs became my new best friend—the kind of friend I could abandon everyone else for.

I couldn’t sleep at night. I would stay up for hours on drugs. My eyes became sunken, my cheeks hollow. Drugs required money. My father was abroad, so I would call him asking for money, but I avoided video calls. When my mother became strict at home, I got angry and acted out. One day, in my desperation, I stole my mother’s wedding jewelry from the cupboard. I sold it and partied with my friends for a few days.
Selling the jewelry gave me a lot of money, but money doesn’t last long.
My father probably heard everything and came back home. He told me to quit everything. I asked him for 2,000 taka, saying I had debts to pay a dealer, and then I would leave everything behind. My father, trusting me, gave me the money. But quitting? No chance. I disappeared for three days. When I finally came home, my father confronted me, and in my intoxicated state, I raised my hand against him.
But today, after all these years, I can say—AMAR Home’s program helped me return to a healthy life.
Now, after all these years, I have rebuilt my friendship with my father. I have become a pillar of trust for my family. I arranged my younger sister’s wedding. As for my mother’s jewelry—I searched a lot but couldn’t find them anymore. But I managed to get her a similar set.
I am grateful to Allah for the life I have today. And AMAR Home holds a special place in my heart. I never imagined I could be this happy again.
