ABOUT AMAR HOME

A DRUG ADDICTION TREATMENT CENTER IN DHAKA BUILT ON 13 YEARS OF REAL RECOVERY WORK

Feel Life’s Potential At AMAR Home

AMAR Home opened in 2012 with a straightforward purpose: give men struggling with substance addiction a real, medically supported path back to their lives.

Not a holding facility. Not a short-term detox stop. A structured residential treatment center in Uttara, Dhaka where addiction is treated as the clinical condition it is, and where the work continues long after a patient walks out the door.

Since then, 1,154 patients have gone through our programs. We follow up with every one of them by phone every two years. That follow-up is not a marketing exercise. It is how we know whether what we are doing actually works.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND AMAR HOME

Every decision at AMAR Home, from how we structure the detox phase to how we run the monthly family counseling session, comes from this team.

Our admission coordinator, Dr. Tasmima Hossain Disha, handles every first conversation with families personally. Our resident medical officer monitors patients daily. Our psychiatrist oversees all clinical assessments and treatment plans.

The counselors, the yoga instructors, the meditation teachers, the care staff who are present at 2 AM when a patient is struggling through withdrawal. These are the people who make recovery possible here.

THE AMAR HOME EXPERIENCE

Most families who call us have already tried to manage a loved one’s addiction at home. They have hidden it from neighbors, covered it from extended family, and quietly hoped it would resolve itself. It rarely does. And when it doesn’t, they need a place that handles the situation with complete discretion, real clinical structure, and no judgment about how long it took to call. That is the environment we have built in Uttara. Patients at AMAR Home live in a residential setting with a daily structure: morning routine, therapy sessions, group meetings, physical activity, meals, prayer time, and evening reflection. Every hour of the day serves a purpose in the recovery process.

The home-like setting is deliberate. A sterile hospital environment raises anxiety. Anxiety makes recovery harder. A calm, structured space with regular routines does the opposite. Families are welcome to see the facility before making any admission decision. We encourage this.

AMAR HOME LIFESTYLE

A typical day at AMAR Home is structured from morning to evening. Structure is not a restriction. In addiction recovery, structure is the treatment.

Here is what a patient’s day looks like in our Long-Term Program:

Morning

Physical activity (football or swimming), followed by breakfast

Forenoon

Individual or group therapy session (CBT, DBT, or Motivational Interviewing)

Midday

Lunch, prayer time, rest

Afternoon

12-Step Facilitation group meeting or Life Management Program session

Evening

Meditation or yoga, dinner, Brotherhood Program meeting

Night

Reflection time, evening prayer, lights out with medical staff on duty

Plan Your Wellness Retreat

Nutrition is part of the clinical program, not just a meal service. Our Dopamine Diet approach focuses on foods that support brain chemistry recovery during and after detox, when the brain’s reward system is rebuilding itself.

The AMAR Home Community extends beyond the residential stay. Our Brotherhood Program connects patients with alumni who have completed treatment and rebuilt their lives. Knowing that the person sitting next to you in a group session came through the same thing and is now running a business or back in university matters in ways that clinical therapy alone cannot replicate.

NUTRITION AND FOOD AT AMAR HOME

Substance addiction does serious physical damage. Yaba and heroin in particular cause severe nutritional depletion, weight loss, and disrupted sleep chemistry. Food is not a secondary consideration in recovery. It is part of the treatment.

We prepare three meals a day on-site, using fresh ingredients and a nutrition plan aligned with what the body needs during and after detox.

We call our approach the Dopamine Diet, because the focus is on meals that support dopamine system recovery, which addiction disrupts significantly. Patients in early recovery have a brain that has been conditioned to expect chemical rewards. Proper nutrition helps stabilize mood, reduce cravings, and rebuild physical health during a period when the body is doing an enormous amount of repair work.

No processed food shortcuts. No skipped meals. Food is part of the daily structure, and the daily structure is the treatment.

A PLACE WHERE FAMILIES CAN TRUST WE WILL TAKE CARE OF THEIR PERSON

The most common question we get from families is not about the treatment. It is: “Will he be safe there?”

We understand why. Handing someone you love over to a residential facility, particularly for a problem the family has been managing in silence, takes significant trust.

Here is what we can tell you directly.

Our center at House 46, Road 2, Sector 9, Uttara operates 24 hours a day. A resident medical officer and paramedic staff are present overnight. The facility is secure. Patients cannot walk out unassisted during the residential phase.

We contact families through the designated case manager assigned at admission. One contact point. No confusion about who to call if you have a question.

Phone contact between patients and family is not permitted in the first 45 days. This is a clinical decision, not an administrative one. The first 45 days are the most psychologically fragile phase of treatment. Outside contact during this window statistically increases dropout. We keep this boundary because it protects your person’s recovery.

From day 45, visits are permitted. Monthly family counseling sessions begin once the patient enters the residential therapy phase.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT REHAB CENTERS

A rehab center is a licensed medical facility that treats substance addiction through a structured combination of detox, therapy, behavioral support, and aftercare. Treatment typically follows three phases: stabilization (medically managed detox), rehabilitation (therapy and skill building), and aftercare (relapse prevention and community support). Most residential programs in Bangladesh run between 30 and 120 days depending on severity.

Rehab center costs in Bangladesh range from 25,000 to 60,000 BDT per month for residential programs, depending on the facility, room type, and treatment intensity. At AMAR Home, the Long-Term Program runs 40,000 to 60,000 BDT monthly, with all core services included. Our 17-day Intensive Program costs 150,000 BDT total.

The program fee covers:

  • Residential accommodation
  • Three daily meals (nutrition-focused)
  • Medically supervised detox
  • Psychiatrist and medical officer consultations
  • Individual and group therapy sessions (CBT, DBT, MI, 12-Step Facilitation)
  • Meditation and yoga sessions
  • Music therapy
  • Monthly family counseling meeting
  • Structured aftercare support

Diagnostic tests, specialized medications, and external specialist consultations are charged separately.

Most patients at AMAR Home complete the full Long-Term Program in approximately four months, including two months of structured aftercare. The 17-day Intensive Program suits individuals with shorter dependency histories who are voluntarily seeking help. Severity of addiction, substance type, and co-occurring mental health conditions all affect the recommended duration.

Family visits are permitted from day 45 onward. Phone contact is not permitted during the first 45 days of admission. Monthly family counseling sessions begin once the patient enters the residential therapy phase. These boundaries are clinical decisions that protect the patient’s focus during the most vulnerable phase of recovery.

Complete confidentiality is maintained for every patient. No patient information is shared with anyone outside the immediate family or legal guardian without explicit written consent. This policy extends to whether a patient is even admitted at all.
