Please read this first. If the person has taken an overdose, is unconscious, having a seizure, has trouble breathing, or is talking about harming themselves, do not wait for an admission appointment. Call 999 or go to the nearest hospital emergency department immediately. A rehab center is for planned treatment, not for acute medical emergencies.
Step 1: The First Consultation
Admission starts with a conversation, not a form. At AMAR Home, this is a phone or in-person consultation with our admission coordinator, Dr. Tasmima Hossain Disha. You do not need to fill out anything online to begin.
You can expect questions like:
- Which substance is being used, and for how long?
- Has the person tried to stop before? What happened?
- Are there any medical or mental health conditions?
- Is the person willing to come, or is the family arranging admission?
Be honest, even about things that feel embarrassing. Every detail helps the doctors plan safe treatment, and everything you share is kept confidential. Details are never shared with third parties without written consent.

Step 2: The Clinical Assessment
After the first call, the team assesses the patient’s addiction history and current medical condition. In a properly run center this is done by medical professionals, not sales staff. A typical assessment covers:
- Substance history: what, how much, how often, and for how long
- Physical health: general condition, existing illnesses, current medicines
- Mental health: depression, anxiety or other conditions that may exist alongside addiction (this is called dual diagnosis)
- Withdrawal risk: how severe withdrawal may be, since it can be dangerous for some substances, including alcohol, heroin and yaba
- Home and family situation: who will support the patient during and after treatment
The purpose is to decide which program is safe and suitable, not to judge. AMAR Home reserves the right to decline admission if our programs are not clinically suitable for a patient. In that case we suggest an alternative facility wherever possible.

Step 3: Program Recommendation and Fees
Once the assessment is done, the team recommends a program. At AMAR Home there are two main options:

Step 4: Documents and Paperwork
Admission is confirmed only after the family agrees to the treatment plan and fee structure. Paperwork usually includes:
- Admission Agreement, signed by the guardian or responsible family member
- Identification for the patient and the guardian (for example, NID or passport) [confirm the exact list with AMAR Home before publishing]
- Previous medical records, prescriptions or test reports, if any
- A list of current medicines, including any long-term treatment for diabetes, blood pressure, epilepsy or mental health

Step 5: What Happens on the First Day
Arriving at a rehab center can feel scary for the patient and the family. Here is what the first day typically involves:
- Arrival and check-in. The patient meets the admission team and completes registration.
- Medical check. A doctor examines the patient, reviews history and checks vital signs.

- Room and orientation. The patient is shown the room, daily routine and house rules.
- Detox planning. The medical team begins a plan for supervised detox.
It is normal for the patient to feel anxious, angry or tearful on the first day. That does not mean the decision was wrong.
A rule families should know: No phone contact is permitted in the first 45 days. This is a clinical decision to protect the patient’s focus during the most critical phase of treatment. It is not a punishment or a break in your relationship, and the family is briefed on progress by the team.
What Happens After Day One
Treatment usually follows three phases:
- Detox: withdrawal is managed under medical supervision. For yaba, heroin and alcohol, this should never be attempted at home.
- Rehabilitation: counseling, therapy (such as CBT and 12-Step work), family sessions and life-skills building. AMAR Home also includes yoga and meditation.
- Aftercare: relapse prevention and community support after discharge. Recovery does not end when the patient leaves.

Voluntary vs Guardian-Arranged Admission
Both are accepted at AMAR Home. Recovery usually goes better when the patient is at least somewhat willing, so it helps to talk calmly before admission. Avoid threats or trickery, because broken trust can make treatment harder. If the person refuses completely, speak to our team first. We can advise on how other families have approached this.
How to Verify Any Rehab Center in Bangladesh Before Admission
Not every center is equal, so check these before you commit:
- Government license: Ask to see the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) license. AMAR Home is DNC-licensed.
- Doctor credentials: Ask for the psychiatrist’s name and BMDC registration number, then verify it at bmdc.org.bd. It takes five minutes.
- Overnight medical cover: Ask who is present at night during detox and what the emergency protocol is.
